These are the Trending Winter Boots You’ll be Wearing this Season

Winter Boots

With the weather cooling, we’re finally retiring our strappy sandals and summer mules in favour of something more durable. Maybe it’s a sign of the pandemic’s impact on our relationship to style, but comfort is king when it comes to footwear this season. A good boot can see you through both the most glorious and the most gloomy of autumn and winter days. Here are five boot styles on our radar right now, trending for winter 2021.

Lug Sole Boot

Stylish and durable, the lug sole boot is having a real moment right now. We’re seeing a lot of two-tone or neutral coloured takes on this style, which is a great choice if the classic all-black look feels too grunge for your liking. Ankle-high, mid-calf and even over the knee lug sole boots are doing the rounds online and on the streets. We understand the hype. Something about stomping around in a pair of chunky boots makes us feel like we can take on the world – or, at the very least, the inconvenient rainfall on the way to work.

Cowboy Boots

@baredfootwear

A major trend of the last couple of years has been western-inspired footwear, and now it looks like it’s here to stay. Whether it’s in the form of some hardware detailing or a full-blown cowboy boot, the western trend easily adds some flair to an outfit without making it feel like a costume. A pair of white cowboy boots makes for a surprisingly elegant pairing with a midi or maxi dress. Throw a trench coat on top and you’re good to go, from day to night. Since most cowboy-style footwear has a low block heel, comfort is no issue. These boots really are made for walkin’.

Platform Boots

@rocboots

Add some 70s flair – and some height – to your wardrobe with a good ol’ platform boot. For the high-heel obsessed, platforms are the comfiest and most practical winter boots. We’re seeing a lot of platforms lug soles around, so you can even nail two trends in one. Once again, these are versatile enough to pair with outfits for months on end, so they’re a great choice if you’re looking to invest this winter. Whether you want to amp up the retro factor with the rest of your outfit or not is up to you.

Square Toe Boots

@alohas

No matter the colour or finish, a square toe scores you instant chic points. That being said, we’re loving bolder designs in this style. If you’re an all-black-everything kind of person (Melbournians, we’re looking at you) then adding a two-tone or animal print boot to the mix might be all the sunshine you need during the colder months. Cropped flairs and a square toe are a match made in heaven, too.

Knee-High Boots

@tonybianco

Flat, Cuban heeled, kitten heeled, platformed or sky-high, we’re never not going to love a knee-high moment. If you’ve never rocked anything above the ankle, incorporating a knee boot into your wardrobe can feel daunting, particularly for daytime looks. Starting with a flat or low heel is a good choice if you’re looking to invest in your first pair of winter boots this season. The purchase might be something of a gateway drug though. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
