Wilbur the Label is an affordable and versatile women’s fashion label that launched from Perth in 2017. Designed with buys women in mind, we speak with the woman behind the label, Rebecca Easterbrook, about her popular label.
What did you set out to do when you created Wilbur the label and why?
It’s always been my dream to create good quality clothing that is classic, effortless, comfortable and accessible. This is what I always look for in a label when I shop for myself and unfortunately, it’s not always easy to find!
Wilbur is a great name! Where does it come from and what does it stand for?
Thank you – I love the name Wilbur. I was daydreaming on my way to work one day and it just came to me and felt right! Two hours later my label was registered.
Wilbur has quickly gained traction since launching in 2017. Why do you think it’s taken off so quickly? (Any secrets you’d like to share?)
Ohhh secrets! If I had any I would share them all! It’s very boring but what you put in is what you get out. Hard work really does pay off.
Who is the Wilbur woman?
The Wilbur Women desires to look good and feel good with minimal effort. She wants to build a versatile wardrobe and quality pieces that are always in style… and she doesn’t want to break the bank doing it.
What does Wilbur do differently?
Wilbur doesn’t follow trends. My design are very classic and I design with longevity in mind. Your Wilbur pieces will be key staples in your wardrobe for the long term. I also personally select every fabric and embellishment. I’m not sure how common it is these days for the designer to be that hands on with the little details.
What are some of the biggest pitfall’s you’ve had to navigate around since starting?
Securing reliable and quality suppliers had been my biggest challenge. It’s taken a long time but I am now so thrilled with our partners and their workmanship, I love working with them and am very proud of our relationship and out creations!
What’s the single biggest thing people should know about your label?
I design with our busy lifestyles in mind. Wilbur pieces can go from day to night, office to playground and everything in between with ease. The pieces are classic and versatile allowing women to throw them on effortlessly, helping them to feel good in a hurry. I am a mother of two and I know what a juggling act it can be. Wilbur can make it easier!
What’s been the highlight of your journey so far?
There have been so many highlights! Meeting amazing and supportive creatives along the way has been wonderful but nothing beats seeing your clothes on a catwalk.
Your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is navigating a saturated marketplace and trying to stand out amongst the all the amazing Australian designers out there. Australian women are defiantly spoilt for choice.
Your latest collection?
My latest collection is taking Wilbur back to where it first began. The collection is all about classic designs, the most gorgeous fabrics and of course quality workmanship, This was exactly my brief when started in 2017.
What’s next?
More designing! This is what I love to do the most. I could do it all day long. Excitingly, I am also talking with more potential stockists and experimenting more on social media.
