Frocktober
It’s that time of year again. The one where we all don colourful dresses for Frocktober! The idea for this annual event is to raise funds and awareness for one of the most difficult cancers to detect, ovarian cancer.
In Australia, people diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer have a 46% chance of survival beyond 5 years. That’s because by the time it’s detected, it’s already in its late stages and has spread to other parts of the body. There just aren’t any warning signs. Detection tests are the key to helping catch any signs of cancer before it spreads. These tests could save the lives of 8,000 Aussie women over the next 10 years.
To help raise the much-needed funds for these tests, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) encourages us to get loud in fancy frocks.
While it raises awareness for a female disease, Frocktober is all about dressing loud, so it’s absolutely an all-gender event. Everyone can participate irrespective of whether they feel comfortable in a dress. You just have to be comfortable in something colourful, the louder the better!
Not only are you dressing up for a good cause, but Frocktober also allows you to celebrate and express your style. The bigger and more colourful the frock, the more conversations you’ll start. So step out of your comfort zone and get chins wagging!

You’ll receive a Frocktober supporter pack full of info to help you fundraise along with some special goodies for yourself. You can opt to make it a team effort with friends or your colleagues at work for extra support. Don’t forget to give yourself a cool team name. If you aren’t ready to register, there are other ways you can still support this great cause. You could choose to ‘Sponsor A Friend’ on the Frocktober website and pick a team to receive your donation. Remember, no donation is too small.
You can also call attention to this worthwhile cause on your favourite social media platform. Snap a pic for your Instagram and share with this handy guide. Encourage friends to spread the word by tagging them.
