Sydney Street Style
Just when you thought the world would never unglue itself from active wear, along comes Afterpay Australia Fashion Week, unleashing with it sartorial style bursting to be seen. We’re talking oversized blazers, bright citrus hues, baggy suits and statement accessories screaming to be seen. After being cancelled last year due to Covid-19, Fashion Week welcomed consumers to an event that is usually industry-only. Triggering more excitement on the street style scene than had been seen in the years preceding lockdowns, our photographers were there to capture it all.
Inspired by the late New York times street style photographer Bill Cunningham, who started the whole thing about photographing people in the street, we weren’t there simply to photograph the celebrities who were paid to wear outfits. We were there to capture everyone. The famous New York Times photographer said it best when he said:
“I’m not interested in celebrities with their free dresses. Look at the clothes, the cut, the silhouette, the color. It’s the clothes. Not the celebrity and not the spectacle.”

It seems like forever since we were out there photographing fashion lovers arriving and leaving runway showcases at Australia’s biggest fashion events. We’ve missed it and if like us you have too, then you’ll love seeing some of the inspiring style by those turning up to watch the live runways.
The trends, new season winter looks, off-duty model style and the individualistic style that we look for and love all made a welcome and photo-worthy return at this year’s biggest fashion industry event.
Many, but not all of our snaps were taken at Fashion Week’s central hub at Carriageworks, Sydney’s former railway workshops. Some of the “off site” runways were at places like Tamarama Beach and the iconic Sydney Opera House.
