Since it follows Fashion Month in Europe and the US, along with two Australian fashion festivals, in Perth and Adelaide, October usually makes for the emergence of an interesting mix of fashion and styling trends the world over. Call it trans-seasonal confusion or the best way to add some life to an outfit, but almost everywhere we look we’re spotting the sock and sandal, sock and shoe combination. Whether in the form of sheer metallic anklets or monogrammed knee socks, this trend has well and truly dominated over the last month.

Tinted Sunglasses

Seeing the world through rose coloured glasses needn’t require an entire personality shift. Simply make like a street style star and sport a pair of pastel-hued eyewear this summer.

Bike Shorts

Turns out this trend really does have some staying power. Bike shorts went from being a divisive Kardashian-exclusive to runway staple during European fashion month, and now they’re a street style favourite.

Looking to simplify your life? Take some notes from the style set and invest in a mini hand bag. If you’re struggling to fit your phone, wallet, keys and sunnies, you’re probably doing it right.

Extra Long Earrings

Spotted on the earlobes of models walking the ever-dramatic 33 Poets runway at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival were some take-me-serious super long earings. Ultra-long belts had their moment in the sartorial sun, so could it be time for a jewellery takeover?

Puffy Sleeves

Meanwhile, the detail dominating runways during Adelaide Fashion Festival this month was impossible to miss. Exaggerated, voluminous sleeves on dresses and shirts were standouts throughout the week, adding some drama to otherwise modest pieces. Sleeves are puffing out, so turn up the volume!

Local Radar

The weather is finally warming but the Australian colour palette is staying cool.  Locals are opting for monochromatic looks and subdued hues.
