Why We’re Looking Forward to VAMFF 2020

VAMFF 2020

VAMFF 2020, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival starts on March 4 and there’s a lot to look forward to. Here’s why we’re looking forward to it and a sample of what’s in store for you at VAMFF 2020!!

Street Style Scene

The street style scene at VAMFF is as much social as it is about being seen.  Friends in the business catching up with each other, Instagramers meeting their fashion icons, and models strutting their stuff for the street style photographers are all part of the fun. You never know what you’re going to see or who’s going to turn up unannounced! There’s usually a lot to take in and for people watchers like us, it’s incredibly rewarding. Style-on-tap!

Runway Spectacle

VAMff Runway

This year there’ll be everything on the runway from newly emerging fashion designers to the global indigenous runway and Australian fashion labels that have gone global.  These days many collections are in the shops and online before VAMFF opens the runways. But there’s no beating the spectacle of fashion being presented at its very best!  Always worth checking out! You’ll NEVER see the fabulous styling online or in the shops that you’ll see on the VAMFF runways!

Shopping at the Pop-Ups with AFC Curated

For those of you who haven’t been to VAMFF before, you may be surprised to learn that yes, you actually can shop!  For two weeks, there’s a shop stocked full of independent fashion labels in the Emporium. You’ll have to turn up both weeks if you don’t want to miss a thing, as the stock will change and different labels will be available each week. The AFC Curated store opens on the 4th March and you’ll have the opportunity to meet the designers behind each of the labels. Two “Meet the Maker” sessions are scheduled so here’s your chance to get up close and personal with your favourite emerging brands and the people behind them.

Seminars & Events

Colourful unisex design

First Nations Fashion Design

Some of the biggest moments are off runway at the seminars and events.  Fashion is a creative pursuit and the ideas don’t stop with the outfits. Everything from taking a walking tour of the independent fashion labels in Carlton to panel discussions on sustainability and circular fashion are on offer. Loads of options to choose from…

And if you’ve never heard of Celeste Barber, you really haven’t been paying attention.  Comedienne and spoof fashion Instagrammer Celeste is one of the star attractions of VAMFF 2020.  Not only will she making her fashion festival debut on Runway 3, but she’s also headlining the Australian Fashion Summit seminar with a Who’s Who in Fashion lining up to speak!

Model Off-Duty Style

Then there are the models. Those ethereal creatures who glide down the runway in majestic creations and who also provide heaps of style-inspo when they are simply entering and exiting. Here’s quick recap from 2019.  Meet Shay, Hanan, Dut, Konker and Crystal.  Head to our 2019 feature to see more!

Fashion Plus

Emerging designers, new labels, sustainability, the future of fashion, the latest menswear, the list goes on. There’s so much more, we could write a book about it (and you’ll never read it, so we won’t). One thing’s for sure, if you have only the slightest interest in fashion, you won’t go away empty handed. There’s absolutely something for everyone at VAMFF 2020.

See you there!
