Indigenous Models Wanted

Indigenous Fashion Runway

Expressions of Interest closing in just a few days, on Friday, 7 June, for experienced and aspiring Indigenous models, wanted to be part of Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s (CIAF) 2024 fashion performance Country Speaking Light the Fire.

The curatorial team has issued a Queensland-wide invitation for Indigenous models, wanted to participate in this year’s much-anticipated performance that will be presented at the Tanks Arts Centre during CIAF on Thursday, 25 and Friday, 26 July.

CIAF’s Fashion Coordinator, Lynelle Flinders, said this year’s cohort of models will be an all-ages mix of experienced Indigenous performers and newcomers presenting the collections of 12 Queensland First Nations designers.

“For anyone out there thinking about applying but unsure…just do it.”

– Lynelle Flinders, CIAF Fashion Coordinator

“For anyone out there thinking about applying but unsure if they have the right experience or look – just do it.  This amazing opportunity opens doors to building self-confidence, empowerment, making new friends and potentially, a career in fashion,” Ms Flinders said.

Since Grace Lillian Lee’s inception in 2013, CIAF’s fashion performance has developed into a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture through various art forms, from inspired fashion design, wearable art, and cultural adornments, a contemporary form of First Nations’ storytelling brought to life in music, movement and dance.
