There are heaps of new ideas and trends being promoted on Instagram every single moment of every single day. All of them look amazing. It’s hard to know which ones to follow. Are they really trending ATM? Or are they going to be just a fad that doesn’t catch on?
Here’s our summary of the style and fashion trends that Aussies are actually wearing. This what our street style photographers have noticed this week in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
As we switch seasons from summer to autumn, this week’s style vibe on our home streets was pretty diverse – from fresh lace and floaty hems to sharp striped suits. Internationally things looked fun and funky.
#freshwhitelace
Everybody loves a bit of lace. It’s pretty, it’s feminine and it’s a trend that’s spanned the centuries. Today we’re wearing it head to toe, keeping it fresh and white and combining it with added texture.
#getloose
Forget tight and structured, the current shape of our street silhouettes is loose and flowing with a real 60s/70s vibe. From floaty skirts and dresses to wide legged culottes, it’s cool, comfy and perfect for the season.
#pinstripesuit
The pinstripe is back. This time we’re revisiting its 80s power dressing days and wearing it full suited like the city bankers, but keeping it edgy by wearing it over or undersized and paired with a tee and no socks.
#fashionableflats
When it comes to footwear, it seems we’ve kicked off those heels in favour of the much more practical flat. From slides to sneakers to sandals to moccasins, we’re opting for comfort but keeping style.
#superfinepleats
Pleats are bang on trend this season, and while they come in many forms from knife to accordion, look around now and it’s all about the superfine. Whether on skirts or pants, it’s a detail we’re delighting in.
#longhemlines
Hemlines constantly rise and fall, but at the moment our skirts, dresses and pants are definitely heading south. So forget about bearing those pins, street fashion this week says cover up and skim the floor.
#sleevesrolledup
The cuffed trend is on a roll, first it was jeans and pants now its moved up to the sleeves. But this isn’t any old fold, it’s wide, it’s neat, and it sits our shirts right on the elbow to create the perfect chic, casual look.
INTERNATIONAL
#girlswithcurls
Straight is out – its girls with curls that rule, or so say the international pavement fashionistas. From afro frizz to soft waves, messy shags and bouncy ringlets, hair has gone fun, wild and carefree.
#fauxfurtrims
From the UK to New York, fur is hot right now, as long as it’s faux. Currently it’s being by worn by both the sexes trimming jacket collars and edges, from suede to leather – it’s even creeping down the sleeves.
#patterncrazy
Plain is officially dull according to our global eyes – the current look is all about the pattern. From zig zags, florals and checks to animal print, stripes and applique, the more eclectic and colourful the better.
