Style Up Your Summer Slides
Seeing slides everywhere this summer? Australia’s favourite summer footwear is impossible to ignore. Fuss-free, comfy and with so many options, it’s no wonder. Whether you opt for minimal style, chunky or embellished designs, here’s your how-to guide for wearing the trend this summer, showcasing slides from Australian label Not Your Ordinary Flop.
The beauty about NYOF is that our models were able to wear the exact same slides throughout the shoot. Only the tops, or covers, of the slides were changed for the different outfit looks. So easy!
Wear your slides with…
Shorts of the Season
With the warm weather upon us, the shorts to add to your style radar, are the mid-length.
Whether they’re bermudas or denims in a long, knee-skimming silhouette, mid-length shorts will easily update your summer style. They’re so incredibly versatile. Don’t yet have any in your wardrobe? No stress. Just take your trusty scissors to a pair of old jeans or trousers and create your own! Wear them for a casual day at the beach pared back with your swimwear or a tank. Or for a more elevated look, throw on a linen or cotton blazer or a shacket, a cross between a shirt and a jacket.
Classics
When wearing statement slides, keep your outfit chic with clean lines, monochromatic tones and classic pieces. Think blazers or cotton dresses.
Blazers are basic wardrobe staples. Vintage or oversized blazers instantly elevate your look. Team with a tee and high waisted slouch mum jeans for an effortless look. Try turning up the sleeves of your blazer, cuffing your jeans and tucking in your tee. It’s these little styling tweaks that can really help lift an outfit.
An effortlessly chic cotton dress is a definite hero piece for summer. This year, we’re loving cotton, linen and cotton-linen blend dresses with loose silhouettes, longer hemlines and volume in the form of tiers or statement sleeves. For ultimate versatility and cost per wear, look for dresses that can take you right through summer and into the colder months. You’ll be able to wear them everywhere from running an errand, having coffee or to an event.

Vintage Modern Mix
Mixing items from different eras enables you experiment and create a look that expresses your unique personal style. Vintage stores, consignment stores, rent-a-rack boutiques, vintage markets, online vintage re-sellers and op shops continue to grow in popularity as we all become more mindful about our purchases and their effect on our planet.
For these two looks, Adelaide-based fashion stylist Michelle Beltrame paired tops sourced from local vintage markets with the NYOF slides and long denim shorts.
