Off Runway Fashion & Style
This year, The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival was all about giving “Power to the Dreamers”. With people all over the world “doing extraordinary things, paving their own paths and empowering others through fashion”, the VAMFF plaza area provided a ready platform for showcasing stylish off-runway looks. The street style set didn’t disappoint!
As both the entry point to the runway shows and the street style main stage, the festival plaza area is the playground for photographers keen to snap a little off-runway fashion action. Celebrities, front-row fashionistas and everyone else turning up to play here turn on fashion and style every bit as eye catching as those on the runways. Almost as important as what’s going on inside, the fashion and style on show here highlight individuality, big trends and how to wear them. When it comes to fashion and style the “street stylers” on the plaza are the earliest adopters of the latest offerings. There’s lots to see and more to savour.
Here’s what we saw. Autumn colours and neutrals were out in force. Suiting was a big look. So was shimmer. Quite a bit of denim but not as much as in previous years. Not a huge amount of black. Accessories! LOTS of accessorising, with minimal layering. Above all, individuality shone through. If that’s not giving power to the dreamers, then nothing does.
