Attending the media launch of their new Adelaide routes, we were left in no doubt that Qatar Airways is the world’s only 5 star airline.
Already flying from Melbourne since 2009, Perth since 2012 and Sydney (daily) from March this year, Adelaide was the first airport in Australia to welcome the new A350-A900 series aircraft. Demand in Australia is so great that from 15 September onwards, Sydney will be served by a Qatar Airways’ bespoke super-jumbo jet – the A380 aircraft.
These are amazing aircraft. We are talking about the most modern wide bodied planes you’ll find. The A350 that will be servicing the Adelaide route has a first class lounge which has to be seen to be believed with only 8- you heard it, just 8, first class seats. If you fly business class, you’re one of only 36 passengers and there’s a new 1x2x1 layout of seats. That means everyone has access to the aisle, exactly want we want on long-haul flights! Incredibly, there’s an on-demand à la carte menu service so Business Class passengers can order anything from the menu at any time during the flight. The aircraft also features the state-of the-art Oryx One entertainment system, with more than 3,000 entertainment options on individual screens in all classes.
The dreaded jet-lag might also start being a thing of the past as well. Travel time’s been cut by Qatar Airway’s 90 minute transit times through Dohar. That’s a big cut! International travel to or from Australia is by definition long-haul. It’s not just changing time zones, but also a matter of noise, difficulty in sleeping and discomfort. What’s exciting to know is that the modern design and technology of the Airbus A350-A380 means that you’re going to arrive so much much more rested, even in economy. Its Business Class seats offfer amazingly comfortable fully-flat beds available in the sky with 80 inches of seat pitch. Its low cabin altitude means that you are not as fatigued when you arrive at your destination. That’s also because these aircraft have the lowest twin engine noise level of any other aircraft. -Don’t know about you, but we never fly without earplugs, so this sounds like it’s going to be a delightful change!
Everything’s been thought of. Full LED lighting in the cabins and also on the plane’s exteriror, large 18 inch television screens, seating configurations that are 3 x 3 x3. Only three people to a row! Goodbye horrible centre row seats with too many people to step over when you need to take a nature break.
The galley, a feature of business class travel on the best airlines has been surpassed on Qatar Airways planes by a LOUNGE.
Seriously fashionistas, when the airline’s CEO says that Qatar Airways is both “the airline of choice for the people” and “the world’s only 5 star airline”, he’s got plenty of back-up. This is the world’s fastest growing and most highly acclaimed airline. We know this from the number of routes that are being rolled out, the number of aircraft they are acquiring and from their multiple Airline of the Year Awards. Remember people, Qatar Airways is only 5 years old! In such a short time, they’ve been awarded Airline of the Year in 2015, 2012, 2011 and runner up in 2014, and 2013 by global industry audit Skytrax.
At the Adelaide launch, CEO His Excellency Mr. Al Baker said: “We believe that the people of South Australia deserve the best possible passenger experience when connecting to friends and family across the globe. This is why we are proud to offer them the most modern aircraft in the aviation industry, the Airbus A350, to take them to their destinations of choice where they will arrive feeling more relaxed, and less fatigued from a long-haul flight than ever before thanks to the modern technology on board this state-of-the-art aircraft.”
With so many international airlines NOT servicing Adelaide, this is really exciting news for South Australians and those – many in Melbourne – with families in the state. What many people living outside of South Australia don’t realise is that it’s been common for South Aussies to make international trips by having to travel first to or from Melbourne!
The Qatar Airways Doha-Adelaide service opens up a brand new link with the Middle East, and provides excellent connections further afield such as with Europe and the UK. With the average connection time of just 90 minutes via the airline’s hub at Hamad International Airport, passengers travelling from Adelaide can expect a smooth and seamless journey to their final destination via Doha. The contemporary and luxurious airport, which opened in 2014, has more than 40,000 square metres of retail space and restaurants including more than 70 retail and 30 food and beverage outlets, as well as a 25-metre swimming pool, gym, hotel and spa. Sparing no expense, the airport is set over 24 quare kilometres, took 8 years to build and sits atop land that is 64% reclaimed from the sea. it’s also been named as one of the world’s Top Ten Airports. Qatar Airways says the airport’s been designed “by an airline with the passenger experience (top of) mind”.
The business lounge in Dohar has been named Best Business Lounge in the Middle East by Business Traveller Magazine. If you’ve ever travelled through this region, you’ll know that this speaks volumes!
Qatar Airways was the first Gulf carrier to join global airline alliance, Oneworld, enabling its passengers to benefit from more than 1,000 airports in more than 150 countries, with 14,250 daily departures.
On top of this, 200 jobs have been created in Australia, so you might want to consider a new career. We spoke to Jacinta, one of Qatar Airways stewards who’s originally from Adelaide and who’s been with the airline for 8 months. Now based in Dohar, Jacinta was flown back to Adelaide for the launch. You’ll see her in our photos from the launch.
And finally of course, as soccer fans already know that the 2022 world cup will be held in Qatar! Now it’s easy to get there.
Qatar Airways, not only “Going places together” but also the world’s first 5 star airline!
Watch out for our separate post on the fashions from the red carpet launch!
