Street Trends Straight From Paris
Just because we’re in the middle of our winter down under, doesn’t’ mean we can’t take a few fashion cues from the sun-kissed street stylers abroad. Paris Men’s and Haute Couture Fashion Week have wrapped up, and while the runway offerings were spectacular, the showgoers themselves have given us plenty to feast our eyes on, too. Take a look at the best of Parisian style along with the very latest Paris street style trends.
Futuristic and fun, silver is shimmering its way into the wardrobes of Paris’ style set. Even the smallest splashes of this metallic tone in an outfit catch the light instantly, rain or shine.
Maybe street style is having a magpie moment? Another trend of the shiny variety was a favourite during the Paris Fashion Week shows. Jackets embellished with studs, pins and sequinned fringe details transformed laid back outfits into some of the chicest looks of the week. A perfect trend to note if you’re trying to add some oomph to your winter wardrobe.
All out prints are trending big time with the guys lately, none more so than the ultra loud Hawaiian shirt. This look can be surprisingly sleek when paired with some tailored trousers, but for some, it might always feel a bit more dad-on-vacation than fashion forward.
There was no shortage of statement blouses and shirts on the streets of Paris last week. Once again, street stylers chose to pair their utterly extra statement tops with more classic pieces. Consider this the fashion version of the ‘only eyes or lips’ makeup approach.
Head to toe black with a splash of metallic – boring to some, best street style uniform EVER to others.
Where block colours are concerned, red continues to be the local favourite all year long.
This week, our style wisdom comes from the ultra-talented Melbourne-based stylist and photographer, Nelly Skoufatoglou.
Describe your style in three words: What the hell?!
Trend you can’t stop spotting? Even though I too was drooling over the Balenciaga Triple S SS18 sneakers, seeing them almost everywhere has put me off a bit. Not sure if I’ve regretted it yet.
Any trend predictions? What is perceived as a trend prediction in Australia is already a reality in Europe – I’m still trying to get used to that – but Heron Preston has just launched womenswear and it’s SS18 is one of the most interesting and conceptual lookbooks I’ve seen; perhaps it’s the thigh-high wellies. Another brand that would totally belong in Melbourne is A-COLD-WALL; really picking up in the UK and Berlin at the moment.
Style tip for colder weather? Just wear whatever makes you feel good and reuse, upcycle; shop less and when you do shop wisely. Shop local. Give away everything that’s taking up space in your wardrobe. Whilst we have the luxury to ponder on style tips for the winter there are people on the street that can’t afford to keep warm.

Consistently slick style and moody imagery make Melbournite @nami_man one of the most interesting street stylers to follow today.
