Melbourne New Fashion Designers
A rare opportunity has arisen for consumers and fashion insiders to view both fully realised and conceptual works by new designers at the Emporium from 24-26 March, when seventeen multidisciplinary artists, fashion design students and designers showcase with Melbourne Fashion Hub. These are Melbourne’s new fashion designers.
The talented line-up has been selected by a panel of highly regarded fashion industry experts to showcase over an opening night and 2-day retail pop-up. The panel included model, disability and gender equity advocate and activists Akii Ngo; Style Editor for the Age and Sydney Morning Herald, Damien Woolnough-Reid; the founder of fashion entrepreneur and business educator Elizabeth Formosa; gender neutral fashion designer Erik Yvon; David Jones’ Events and Experiences Manager Fiona Twist; fashion editor of Voxfrock Janice Breen Burns, and the cofounder of Collective Closets Laurinda Ndenzako.
Featuring students and graduates from Holmesglen, RMIT and Whitehouse Institute of Design, inspiration behind the pieces draw from cultural references, conceptual ideas, and textile technology. The individually unique works range from editorial to accessible fashion and all points in between. The one thing they all have in common is responsible practices.
The stellar line-up includes 2022 luminaries from Melbourne Fashion Week’s Student Runway, the winner and runner up of the Myer Emerging Designer Award and a finalist in the ARTS Thread/Gucci Global Design Graduate Show.
