Meet The Stylist: Jade Leung

Meet Jade Leung

Represented by Vivien’s Creative, Jade Leung is one seriously talented and versatile Aussie stylist. We had a chat with the Melbourne based creative to get the scoop on how she entered the industry and her advice for others wishing to do the same.

How would you describe what you do?

Glorified bag lady.  Perpetual consumer.  Always shopping for someone else!

How did you make your start in styling?

I was studying Visual Merchandising when I discovered fashion styling as a unit of work experience.  I found a stylist I assisted for two weeks, we got along, I worked hard, so she took me on as her full-time assistant. The rest is history.Editorial Work by Stylist Jade Leung

What’s the most challenging aspect of your work?

Time Management.  A lot of the time, I get booked with a very short lead time.  Source 30 full looks by tomorrow….? *** sweat face emoji*** No Problems!

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

Love too much or not at all.

Most prized item in your wardrobe?

Do I have to pick one?  This seems like such a mean question to ask someone who is constantly shopping! It’s a tie between my Martin Margiela jersey/tulle dress & my first edition Prada leather brogues.

Highlight of your styling career so far?

Assisting Alastair McKimm while I was in NYC

Can you describe your style in three words?

Jeans.  T-shirts.  Twinsets.

Your advice for any aspiring stylists?

ASSIST!! ASSIST ASSIST!!

There seems to be a huge gap in the industry between experience – both on set, in pre/post styling and work ethic wise – between the new breed and the dinosaurs.

There’s also a difference between a trust fund baby styling an entire shoot with clothes from their personal designer wardrobe, and a stylist who does it properly via PR!

Best piece of style advice?

You do you!

What’s next for you?

Continuing to finding a way to move to Italy so eat all of the carbs and buy all of the Versace.
