Couture Runway
Designers from both ends of the boundary pushing spectrum shared the couture runway at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival last night.
The Bloom Runway opened with Indonesian designer Malik Moestaram whose bejewelled designs are inspired by his Indonesian heritage. In contrast, 33 Poets designer Rebecca Paterson pushes the boundaries in counter culture couture. The contrasting showcases put on by these two very talented designers last night were both dramatic and arresting.
33 Poets
33 POETS creative Rebecca Paterson has established a reputation for her unique, experimental design work. Already known as highly original and inventive, the designer’s brand of grunge couture places her as one of Australia’s leading counter-culture fashion practitioners.
Paterson’s collections explore the impact of street culture on contemporary visual art and contemporary fashion. Cocktail Revolution was able to capture behind-the-scenes preparation for the exciting avant garde looks along with their appearance in front of Perth audiences on the couture runway.
Presented to an instrumental version of Sia’s Chandelier, Paterson’s creations didn’t disappoint and have become one of the highlights that people attending the Perth Fashion Festival look forward to, due largely to the detail Paterson goes to to always present the unexpected. A very exciting runway!

Malik Moestaram
Indonesian designer Malik Moestaram is revered in South East Asia for his intricate haute couture pieces. It’s easy to see why after his dazzling display of world-class design on the international runway at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival last night.
Intricate bead work and embossed floral embellishments adorned Moestaram’s extensive collection of bejewelled haute couture pieces. Feminine, modest and glittering, the designer’s collection pays homage to the connection between women and flowers.
