Celebrate the Year of The Snake with Life-Size Snakes & Ladders!

From January 28 to February 9, QV Melbourne is lighting up Lunar New Year 2025 with a fun and interactive Snakes & Ladders experience! This playful twist on the classic board game takes centre stage at QV Square, right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. How perfect! After all, it is the Year of the Snake!

Old Beijing Opening

The game is completely free and set on an enormous eye-catching red and pink chequered board. Visitors can simply scan a QR code to access virtual dice on their smartphone, then navigate through the stylish ladders and striking 3D sculptural snakes.

Open daily from 10am-10pm, it’s a family friendly year of the snake experience as well as being perfect for families, friends, and anyone celebrating Lunar New Year. Explore the game before or after indulging in QV’s fantastic dining and entertainment options.

Over the festival weekend, from February 1-2, anyone who spends $50 at a participating store or restaurant can present their receipt at the Snakes & Ladders game board for a chance to win a share of $10,000 worth of lucky red packet giveaways! Adding to the fun, there’ll be lion dances, dragon dances, and martial arts performances lighting up QV Square. You can’t miss the energetic lion dances performed by the Chinese Masonic Society from 5pm on both days. Kids can even explore traditional lion heads on display.

Melbourne’s iconic Chinese dining spot, Old Beijing, is hosting a Lunar New Year banquet from January 28 to February 11. The feast includes traditional dishes like the Prosperity Yee Sang rainbow salad, tossed right at your table, with other auspicious favourites like Lotus Leaf Rice, Braised Pork Knuckles with Black Moss, King Island Lobster (“Dragon Prawn”), and more. Guests can also enjoy lion dances on Lunar New Year’s Eve and Day, as well as on February 1.

“Lunar New Year is a truly special time for us at Old Beijing. We love sharing the traditions and hosting both regulars and visitors for a feast to remember. Plus, each year, we give back to charity, and this year we’re proud to support the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute,” says David Loh, co-owner of Old Beijing.
