Brisbane Fashion Festival 2022

What You Need to Know

The world of fashion festivals has been sorely interrupted over the last two years while Covid had its way with the globe. In a triumphant return, the fashion industry is making its way back to normality, which means… yep, you guessed it. Fashion festivals, weeks or months are back baby! Not only are the international fashion circuits resuming their true places in our hearts as well as in Paris, Milan, London and New York, they are also back in full swing in Australia. The Australian fashion calendar starts with Melbourne in March, followed by Sydney in May, and now it’s time for the return of the Brisbane Fashion Festival 2022.

Kicking off on Monday August 22, the five-day Brisbane Fashion Festival is showcasing the best of the state’s spring and summer collections. Strap yourselves in, because we’re giving you a little sneak peek into what you can expect!

This year the Brisbane Fashion Festival is celebrating its 15th anniversary and fittingly it will again be held at the beautiful Brisbane City Hall in King George Square.

The most hyped show is the Designer Group Show which has already sold out! Thankfully, an encore has been scheduled to meet overwhelming demand, so make sure you book now! This runway will feature Naudic, White Label Noba, Wil Valor, Girl and the Sun, Sascha Drake, Astille and a number of other Queensland based designers.

There’s also the Hancock Prospecting Next Gen Group Show that gives us all an insight into the newer up and coming designers. Next Gen showcases in every fashion festival are our favourite not-to-be-missed runways. Incredibly popular for obvious resasons, they are usually also the first to sell out and should ALWAYS be on your priority when booking your tickets. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! Frequently unpredictable, they are often the birthplace of Australia’s next leading designer. You’re definitely going to want to be able to say you saw it first, so we strongly recommend you keep this at the top of your list of runways to watch.

Beyond the runways there are also countless pop up events that will be well worth while. Look out for the Treasury Brisbane After Party that is taking place after the Designer Group Showcase. Mark your calendar for a High Tea with jeweller extraordinaire Margot McKinney, and for those who love to get into the vibe, be sure to visit the EPICURE Fashion Bar and VIP Runway Lounge to be seen and papped!

Don’t forget to pay close attention to the models who’ll be walking the runway during the festival’s 5 day event. Not only do festivals such as this one shine the spotlight on some of the newest and brightest design talent, they also reveal the upcoming faces of fashion: the models. Just look at Adut Akech. She began her runway journey at the Adelaide Fashion Festival and is now ranks #1 in the world of modelling and is in huge demand. With over a million instagram followers, an exclusive partnership with Lancome, a friendship with the modelling queen Naomi Cambell, and three Met Gala’s under her belt, a career like Adut’s could begin for a fresh new face at the Brisbane Fashion Festival.

The Brisbane Fashion Festival is not just for the fashion set. It’s also one of the highlights of the Brisbane social calendar. That’s why there’s a 25% discount for guests who stay at the Treasury Brisbane Hotel, cheaper and easily accessible parking for festival-goers at the Brisbane Myer Centre, and local brands that are participating will be offering retail discounts. It’s worth heading to the city for these amazing bargains, especially on Fashion Friday, an exclusive all day & night event to Sip, Style & Shop in the Queen Street Mall.

If you’re not in Brissy that week, (August 22-26), or get unlucky with your tickets, remember, we’re living in a digital age and you can bring the runways right into your home. Just tune into the festival’s livestreams, or following the Brisbane Fashion Festival on Instagram.

There are only a few big fashion festivals around Australia, and the Brisbane Fashion Festival is one of them. Don’t miss! See the full programme and get your tickets.
