Behind the Scenes of a Campaign Shoot

Rundle Street East

What happens when you are asked to do a street style shoot for Rundle Street East and on the scheduled day it’s bucketing down with rain? A lot of running, for starters!

When Cocktail Revolution teamed up with women’s fashion retailers in the strip to photograph the next advertising campaign for Rundle Street East, conditions were far from ideal. Picture a dark, overcast, cold, blustery and rainy day of around 11 degrees. On the spectrum, it’s at the extreme opposite end of an ideal day for a street style shoot.

But hey, magic happens. And it did!

The Project

Brief: Fashion shoot with retailers on Rundle Street East
Objective: Photos for new season’s advertisements
Retailers: Morrison, Seafolly, Tigerlily & Miss Gladys Sym Choon
Models & Stylists: Somaya & Theavy from Miss Gladys Sym Choon
Location: Rundle Street East, Sym Choon Lane & Ebenezer Place

We invited two retail staff and stylists from Miss Gladys Sym Choon to select and style outfits of their choice. They could choose any garments they liked from from Morrison, Seafolly, Tigerlily and Miss Gladys. Stylists Somaya and Theavy took only 10 minutes to put their outfits together! Easy when you know what you’re doing.

The Challenge

Never one to shy away from colour and pattern, Somaya found inspiration for two looks. The first saw her team a printed blouse, textured knit and khaki pants for a layered winter look. The second combined silky palazzo pants with a wild printed boho blouse for a luxe holiday outfit.

Theavy challenged the conformities of the simple slip dress and paired it with a pastel pink teddy bear coat and matching beret to show us just how easy it is to create a trans-seasonal outfit from our favourite summer purchases.

Windy!

Taking the shot

The truth is, our cameras and everything else were getting rained on. To be expected once winter hits, of course. Except this particular retail strip is known as a great place to go, whatever the weather.

Seems the sun actually does favour this shopping and dining area. We were gifted with bursts of sunshine in the middle of it all. Some would say the rain made our street backdrop sparkle just a little more. Known for its festoon lighting in the evening, the rain just added a touch of daytime glimmer and glitz.

Checking

Despite the poor light and blustery conditions, the elements smiled and we snapped the shots we needed. Then it’s a matter of choosing the final photo for the advert.

Checking and choosing

Choosing

Mmmmmm… Choosing which look to go with is always a tough job. Our task ends with the submission of photos. The hard part of making the final selection goes to Sara and her team at Maras Group.
