About Cocktail Revolution Street Style & Fashion

Our WHY

Cocktail Revolution was started in response to the lack of coverage of diverse Australian faces by the mainstream media. We’re talking Aboriginal, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Southern European and Latino faces. We were tired of seeing a version of Australian that didn’t reflect reality.  All we could see in the media up until 2012 when we launched, was a “Neighbours” version of who made up Australian society.  It wasn’t real and we couldn’t relate.

We started Cocktail Revolution by photographing diverse and stylish young people in city streets. They were not professional models and not pre-prepared in any way. They were simply people who were going about their business on any given day. We started by only publishing these diverse faces that reflected Australia, showing some of the most individual and original styling you’d NEVER see anywhere else.  We invited people to vote for their favourite looks. That platform, our weekly street style gallery, is still one of our main activities.  (Currently paused for the first time in 8 years because of the Covid-19 restrictions.) People started asking us what our subjects were wearing and it was then we realised that we would have to expand into some kind of fashion platform.

In 2014, before Instagram was as big as it is now, our weekly street style gallery linked garments in our photos directly to garments on fashion websites, with only one click.  It’s still only one click, something that Instagram is only now rolling out in mid 2020.

Our version of diversity includes all genders, body shapes, and of course ALL ethnicities. We have always embraced diversity. It’s why we do what we do.  We don’t exclude.

In the process, Cocktail Revolution has come to be recognised as a leading street style, fashion and photography platform for Australian fashion labels. In 2019 Cocktail Revolution was ranked in the top 4 street fashion blogs in the world by a California based marketing research company.

Street Style Fashion

Cocktail Revolution  is all about the street style scene and fashion choices of diverse young Aussies…

We check out everything you’re interested in about the Australian fashion industry and everyone who’s getting involved in it. That means everyone from designers and their new collections to illustrators, stylists, buyers, models, photographers and curators. We’re stalking the trends you’re adopting and the fashion festivals and runway events around Australia that you love to see. We sneak-peek all the behind-the-scenes action you love to spy on. And fashion shoots? We’re taking them to the next level!

When it comes to fashion and style, we go beyond the runways. Will you catch the eye of our roving street fashion photographers if they pass you on the street?  What’s your street style? We’re interested in your unique take on street style and fashion, based on what we see you wearing down the street. If you’ve got the passion to style it, you’ve got what we want to feature.

Almost every week of the year, we post new photos here, of people around the country who have turned our heads on city streets.  There’s a voting button for you to join the conversation and have your say about who’s sporting your favourite style. Hit the Cocktail glass to vote. You can vote for more than one person in a week, but you can only vote once for each person. Fair’s fair. At the end of the month we tally the votes from each of the street style galleries we’ve posted and who ever has topped your vote appears on our Top Voted Favourites page.

There’s no single type of style or “look” that we’re after. Let’s face it, Aussies come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and genders. From quirky to high end style, if you’ve turned our photographer’s heads, you’ve probably got a  very individual look that our followers would love to see! Top-voted winners currently receive a hero-tee of their choice from High Tees Australia. They may even be asked to model for an Australian fashion label, like Anna and Nixon below…
